NEWS RELEASES:
Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Foundation Purchases New Defibrillators for Knoxville Hospital & Clinics
The Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Foundation recently purchased five new cardiac monitor defibrillators for Knoxville Hospital & Clinics. Revenue used to help purchase this equipment was generated from the second annual Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Foundation Gala; the Foundation raised $15,500 at the Gala last fall.
The LIFEPAK 1000 defibrillator is designed to be the most powerful basic life support tool for emergency medical service (EMS) and the patients served. Defibrillator and monitor flexibility is critical to providing state-of-the-art care in cardiac arrest resuscitation. With advanced yet intuitive features and technology, the LIFEPAK 1000 defibrillator assures that health care workers have the best equipment to fulfill the commitment of saving lives.
The LIFEPAK 1000 defibrillator is a highly a rugged device, with a large, intuitive screen, to provide both graphical and ECG displays which can be quickly and easily assessed, as well as an advanced battery system to let health care workers know when the device is ready to operate. The device is equipped with ADAPTIV™ biphasic technology providing a full range of energy up to 360 joules.
A defibrillator is a medical device first responders use to treat a person who is the victim of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is most often caused by ventricular fibrillation, a dangerous, abnormal heart rhythm that causes the heart's electrical signals to become completely disorganized. The heart is then unable to pump blood to the body, and the person quickly loses consciousness and stops breathing. Performing CPR and calling emergency medical services are not enough. Chances of survival drop 7-10 percent every minute without defibrillation.
"We are very appreciative of the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Foundation and the efforts they have gone to in order to continue supporting the growing needs and changes in the medical environment at our hospital & clinics," said Ann Helwig, CEO. "Throughout the past five years the foundation has provided our hospital with many pieces of updated medical equipment allowing our staff to better meet the medical needs of our patients within the communities we serve."
Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, a Critical Access Hospital serving Marion County and the surrounding area, is dedicated to providing personal, progressive quality health care with compassion.
