located in the central portion of Iowa. We are ideally located 43.33 miles from
Des Moines, 216.44 miles from Kansas City, 331.46 from Chicago and 282.38 miles

Knoxville is well known as the Sprint Car Capitol of
the World because we are the home of the Knoxville Raceway and the National
Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
The Knoxville Raceway seats 24,000
and is the location of the Mopar Auto Parts Knoxville Nationals, a four day
show that takes place the second week of August. The Knoxville Raceway also has
weekly sprint car racing from April to September.
As you make your way
into Knoxville, on the downtown square you will find the majestic Richardson
Romanesque style Marion County Courthouse. The courthouse was constructed in
1896 at a cost of $80,000 and has since undergone a $2 million renovation
project. The courtrooms are some of the most extraordinary in the state of
Iowa.
If you are coming into Knoxville from the south, on the left side
of the road you will see Knoxville Hospital & Clinics and the Bessie Spaur
Butterfly Garden. The Bessie Spaur Butterfly Garden is located on the south
grounds of the hospital and was created to honor Bessie Spaur, a lifelong
Knoxville resident and avid gardener.
A wonderful place to camp, walk
on trails, and bike is Red Rock Dam located on Highway T-15. After nine years
of construction, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finished the mile long dam in
1969 to control flooding along the Des Moines River. In addition to the trails,
there are camp sites, a visitor center, and much more at Red Rock Dam.
Knoxville has a school system that is top quality. We have three
elementary schools: East Elementary, West Elementary, and North Star
Elementary, one middle school, and a new high school. We also have eight
college, university, and community college campuses within one hour of town.
Knoxville's business park is located on the south edge of town across
from the airport.
